Life After Uni with Ramlah Wraich

We all have different ways of expressing ourselves. For Ramlah Wraich, fashion is her thing. From sketching a garment and bringing it to life, Ramlah uses fashion to explore the world she lives in. We caught up with Ramlah to find out more about her German and Pakistani cultural influences and what life is like after graduating at the University of Creative Arts.

2016 has been a good year for you. You showcased at Graduate Fashion Week, you were shortlisted for the Fashion Innovation Award. How do you think this kind of exposure has helped your brand?

This has been great for my brand. My collection at Graduate Fashion Week really stood out and I hope people will remember it. I wanted to make a fashion statement and the collection was crazy enough to do that.  As a result of all this exposure I got an offer from the Royal College of Art to study for a MA in Footwear, Accessories & Millinery Specialisms. Being noticed by these organisations, has helped me immensely. You only need one key person to notice your brand and that can really open doors for you. The fashion industry needs all of us young designers. We bring a fresh perspective to the industry.

How does your brand reflect who you are as a person?

Everything I fantasises about is reflected in my creativity. My collections bring my fantasises to life and that shows the kind of person I am. My first collection worked well for me, because I feel like I got to bring my fantasy to life.

What is the biggest thing you have learnt since starting your brand?

I was always afraid of doing something wrong and this is what held me back for a long time. I then realised, sometimes you just need to take a leap of faith and go for it. There is not really a right or wrong way of being creative. If you do make any mistakes, you cherish them, because you learn from them and they make you stronger.

Wheels on the bus

How would you describe your brand? Who is the ideal Ramlah Wraich customer?

In one word BONKERS!!!!!! a person who always wants to make a fashion statement. Someone who doesn’t follow seasonal trends and just wants to look different from everyone else.

You are currently studying for a Masters in Art Footwear, Accessories & Millinery Specialisms. Have you got plans to expand your brand?

Yes for sure. There are plans to expand the brand or collaborate with other people to bring out a different collection. However I am not sure whether I will do this straight after my Masters.
