Kosovo-Albanian artist who now resides in Berlin, ILIRA is really making her mark in the music world. Raised in a small Swiss town by Kosovo-Albanian parents, ILIRA struggled to find her place in an environment with clashing cultures. Citing a wide set of musical influences from Nirvana to Rihanna as her first major muses, ILIRA developed a rebellious middle- finger-wagging attitude at a very young age, shaping her into the artist that she is today. So this week we have now ILIRA taking over our Demur Decks.
I’ll Never Love Again – Lady Gaga
I watched “A Star is Born” the other day, deeply moved by the raw emotion and vulnerability portrayed by both Gaga and Cooper. What a beautiful song!
Endless Summer – G-Eazy
Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a way to escape depressing thoughts and live in a state of permanent summer with zero future anxiety? Such a vibey song that makes me wanna drive on the highway with the top down.
You’re Gonna Break My Heart Tonight – Tom Odell
I absolutely love Tom Odell, and the way he channels pain and honesty in his piano-led art.
With You – Mariah Carey
Recently, I’ve been listening lot to 90s/early 2000s Mariah ‘cause my songwriter Jaro loves her and listens to her constantly. She definitely paved the way for a lot of artists and left her footprints in the sand of pop music. I’m really feeling the stripped-back arrangement of “With You.” Looking forward to her new album!
Without Me – Halsey
Love Halsey’s commanding confidence and attitude. Definitely one of the strong female voices in today’s pop!
Morph – Twenty-One Pilots
The lyrics of Twenty One Pilots always get to me. My favourite lines in “Morph” are:
“We’re surrounded and we’re hounded /
There’s no above, or under, or around it /
For ‘above’ is blind belief and ‘under’ is sword to sleeve /
And ‘around’ is scientific miracle.”
