Teller and Westwood’s period of Collabs

Juergen Teller and Vivienne Westwood, an interesting collaboration? Well, you are right there! The pair have been collaborating as far back as 1993 when they started their wacky photo shoots, and this year they did not hold back. Teller has produced an exhibition to review their different periods of photo collaborations with Westwood from 1993 to 2017 which opened this week on 6th September.

Young Talent of NYFW

New York Fashion Week has commenced this week, but  could these young designers steal the show? Eckhaus Latta created by designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta could be the new breath of fresh air in the industry. “We design based on how we’re feeling as individuals,” the duo explain, “but with that said, we love to see our clothing on a range of people including different ages, sizes, races and gender preferences. We prefer when our customer chooses to use our clothing to add to their own identity, not let our clothing define them.” The guys express their aim is to strive towards non-mainstream stereotypes in their designs.

Under the name Area NYC, designers Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg are reinventing early-Noughties glamour for the modern age. Area NYC is more young talent to look out for this week at NYFW. The designers share “we have developed into a brand that is interested in exploring divides, between high street and high fashion; European and American; feminine and masculine… for us it’s not one or the other.” The designers are interested in exploring these concepts as dualities and not as opposites, incorporating an inclusive, optimistic attitude into their designs.

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty

We didn’t think this woman could get any better… but this week Rihanna revealed that her new beauty range will focus on women of colour to distance the stigma of coloured skin-tone. She expressed “Gotta represent for my girls and we come in all shades! Especially my brown sisters… been left out too many times in the makeup world.” The range will feature 40 different skin tones for foundation and we couldn’t be prouder. Rihanna’s confirmed her new Fenty Beauty range will be launching on the 8th September this week.

Banned because of the Buddha… disappointment for the Victoria Secret Model

This week, Victoria Secret Model Gigi Hadid has deeply insulted many people. Whilst thinking she was innocently imitating a Buddha shaped biscuit whilst socialising with friends, many critics argued her mockery was an insult to the impersonation of the religious figure and played on Asian stereotypes. She has since apologised for her actions, however, she may be banned from the next Victoria Secret Show which is set to take place in Shanghai, China.
