Demur’s Most Controversial Videos Of Our Time…Art Speaks Volume

Here at Demur we are appreciate people who think like there is no box. Of course with our love for music, an artist, who isn’t afraid to push boundaries, speaks to us even more. We take a look at some of the videos that have caused a bit of a bother with the powers that be.

M.I.A , Born Free

Genocide seems to be a touchy subject already but Roman Gavras-held no qualms about that, in this lengthy short film video for M.IA. The video sees redheaded children being kidnapped by the military forces before being killed. CONTROVERSIAL indeed! It is not a pretty sight watching a child or even an adult being shot to death.  The video speaks about how minorities are treated in this world and perhaps the visuals being so gruesome, depicts how society likes to ignore the issues we refuse to stop and ponder about.

Lady Gaga Ft R. Kelly, Do What U Want

This one was a bit disturbing to be honest. The director of the video Terry Richardson was accused of sexually assaulting a few models and of course we all know the stories about R.Kelly. We will not go into too much detail, but R.kelly plays a doctor with Lady Gaga as the naked patient. There is some poking and some moaning. Some critics described the video as an advert for rape. The only available clip from the video was leaked by TMZ and you can see it below.

Robin Thicke, Blurred Lines

For a song that was incredibly doomed with trouble, it went on to do very well in the charts. From the Marvin Gaye lawsuit, to the explicit video which met with much disapproval. The actual song itself was even banned from some university campuses as it was thought to encourage some “unnecessary extra circular activities”

In the video we have, naked models dancing around Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and T.I who are fully clothed. Robin Thicke once described the concept of the video by saying “Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, ‘We’re the perfect guys to make fun of this.”

Rihanna, Bitch Better Have My Money

We love Rihanna because she is care free and doesn’t give a damn about your opinions. Rihanna shows us in this video that she co-directed, that you better have her money or else. Rihanna does everything that is taboo in the video, kidnap, drugs, arson and alcohol.

Kanye West, Famous

We expect nothing less than controversy from Kanye West. The video features sleeping naked bodies of “famous” celebrities. Kanye West describes these celebrities as the people who have had some connection with him making the headlines. The people sharing a bed with Kanye include George W.Bush, Chris Brown , Taylor Swfit, Kim Kardashian, Amber Rose, Anna Wintour and Ray J. The idea for the video came from the Vincent Desiderio’s painting Sleep.
