Last night I was lucky enough to go and see the brilliant Tom Walker on the penultimate night of his UK tour at Brighton’s Green Door Store. Having had a ridiculously successful year, touring with The Script on their US tour and achieving 50 million streams, to finish off his year, Tom has just been added to the ‘BBC Sound Of 2018’ longlist as well as the ‘MTV Brand New for 2018’ nominees which will with no doubt see him continue to thrive.
Walking on to the stage Tom lit up the entire room. The crowd were instantly excited to see him as he was to see them. As he worked through his set, everyone there became encapsulated in his performance; Green Door Store is a very intimate venue, and with this comes a certain sense of magic. His set was outstanding which came as no surprise considering all that he is achieving currently.
After his set, Tom told everyone that he would happily stay for a chat with anyone, this is something that is happening less and less in the live music scene and it is such a special and personal thing to do. Waiting outside to have a chat with him I saw fan after fan chat, laugh and take photos with him; all the while he had a massive grin on his face. Speaking to him about the night, how his tour has been going he said “tonight is a really special night because it’s such a small venue which makes it really intimate to play, especially when the crowd is as great as it was”.
