Polo & Pan – Ani Kuni

Parisian eclectic pop dance duo Polo & Pan have released their first new song of the year titled ‘Ani Kuni’ with a lighthearted animated video. Having amassed nearly half a billion worldwide streams, the new track comes 10 months after the release of their four-track Feel Good EP which was called “a dose of exploratory sunshine.” ‘Ani Kuni’ is a bright, head-nodding dance track that acts as a tribute to a timeless, globally appreciated children’s song and is the perfect start to 2021’s forthcoming summer season.

“ ‘Ani Kuni’ is a playful dance track for children big and small. It’s a tribute to our favourite childhood lullaby, a timeless Native-American song that has touched generation after generation, all around the world,” said Polo & Pan of the song. The animated video was inspired by children’s educational programs like Sesame Street with a dash of Yellow Submarine. The video’s artistic direction was led by Noemi Ferst & Benjamin Moreau, who have worked with the band since day one, creating their entire visual universe. The animation for ‘Ani Kuni’ was created with the help of Paris’ Werlen Meyer Studios, who also worked on Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs. Combined, the song and video turn the band’s personal favourite lullaby into an irresistible, hope-filled, 70’s bopping trip for all ages that is sure to put you in your happy place.

Isaiah Rashad featuring Duke Deuce – Lay Wit Ya

Breaking a five-year silence, Chattanooga, TN rapper Isaiah Rashad returns with his first new music since 2016, dropping a brand new single ‘Lay Wit Ya’ featuring Duke Deuce. It sets the stage for the arrival of his anxiously awaited second full-length album, ‘The House Is Burning’, coming soon.

Drawing inspiration from favourite authors such as Stephen King, the lyricism takes the spotlight on the menacing ‘Lay Wit Ya.’ Claustrophobic bass and haunting keys underscore his breathy rhymes before Duke wilds out with a fiery cameo. However, it just sets the stage for ‘The House Is Burning’ as he reaches a new apex in terms of his bars, wordplay, and hooks. “This album was difficult,” he admits. “I love music, but I don’t like to say shit. It’s almost like a game for me. It’s like working out. I don’t want to be redundant. Redundancy in general bothers me. Any song that I make, I usually make it in about 30 minutes to an hour, and that’s it. My ideas come to me immediately.”

Anjelo Disons – Lullaby’ / Destiny

South London singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Anjelo Disons has unveiled new double-single ‘Lullaby’ / ‘Destiny’. First up is the fresh, feelgood vibes of ‘Lullaby’, a heartfelt duet that sees Anjelo and 20-year-old East London singer-songwriter Rasida trade pitch-perfect vocals. Next up, ‘Destiny’ is a more downbeat, laidback affair, with Anjelo losing himself in the spiritual jazz sound associated with his band The Oracle. It follows last month’s double-single release of ‘Time’ and ‘Brighter Day’, with all four tracks acting as a diverse precursor to his forthcoming EP ‘The Garden’, out in June.

Lullaby is a song that formed in a session with Oracle members Lorenz & Rasida” Anjelo explains. “I remember programming the drum pattern before Lorenz laid down the phenomenal synths. We loved it, me and Rasida wrote our first verses and chorus within the first session! Rasida is phenomenal to work with because of how musically talented she is, her ears are so good. A member of the Oracle band as a backing vocalist, and one of my closest friends for years, I’m excited to be releasing music with Rasida. Conceptually the song is about your partner bringing you peace to sleep at night in a wholesome, comforting way. The playfulness of the beat and the childlike sounding synths is what gave us the inspiration to write.”

Discussing ‘Destiny’, Anjelo divulges: “I wrote the foundation to Destiny originally in a session with Brando Walker & Nathan at Piano Bar Soho. I sat on the song for a long time, I really wanted the song to have a cinematic feel and the writing to truly take off when something “aligns” in the right way for you and it feels destined. Compositionally, ‘Destiny’ is one of my personal favourite songs I’ve written. After writing the song over the course of a couple of months, I brought it to The Oracle Band to record at Dexter Hercules’ studio, where most of the songs for the project were recorded. The songs has Lorenz on keys, Dan on guitar & bass & Wilf on the drums.”
