Highs + lows, Addiction, Tragedy and Closure all Laid Out in Hak Baker’s EP ‘Misled’
East London wordsmith, Hak Baker has released ‘Misled’, his new 6 track EP which features new single ‘Cop Car’ as well as 2021 releases ‘Cool Kids’ and ‘Irrelevant Elephant’.
Created in lockdown by Hak, the EP reflects the turbulent mood of the time. ‘Misled’ is an authentic and honest release capturing all the highs and lows of the recent period in Hak’s life whilst also giving him an opportunity to reflect on important personal moments evoking great sadness and tragedy, which have allowed him an opportunity for closure.
Speaking on his ‘Misled’ EP, Hak said, “Lockdown was a time of madness and reflection. Upon resurfacing I’d run through the archive of the past and decided finally that I’ll be putting a lid on some things. A ribbon with a bow, finally done with it. During that process of accepting; I wrote this EP to reflect those moments. The best times of me life – full of extreme highs and lows. Extreme happiness matched by extreme sadness, addiction and tragedy. Ultimately, one was Misled, but not anymore. Rest in peace Tommy. Believe it or not brother. We about to move on.”
The EP comes with featured track, ‘Cop Car’ (produced by Karma Kid) which sees Hak cleverly juxtaposing a playful and innocent rhyme against the reality of harsh treatment by the police. Accompanying the release is a live performance video, with Hak delivering a stripped-back acoustic version of the track, bringing to the fore the significance of the its stories as he performs seated on a police car and illuminated by flashing siren lights.
‘Cop Car’ follows the impressive and creative video releases from Hak for EP tracks, ‘Cool Kids’ and ‘Irrelevant Elephant’
With his individuality, DIY ethic and anti-establishment ethos rooted in his honest and relatable music, Hak is an artist well and truly in his own lane.
