The Institute of Positive Fashion has set minimum and bronze standards for BFC/GQ DESIGNER FASHION FUND participants.
The Minimum and Bronze standards align with 17 SDGs, including ending poverty and deprivation, improving health and education, reducing gender inequalities, and improving climate action, among others. These are universal challenges to all nations.
The Standards pertain to seven aspects of a garment’s life cycle: 1. Strategic Direction, 2. Raw Materials Sourcing, 3. Design, 4. Manufacturing and Distribution, 5. Retail, Consumer Engagement, and Post-Consumer, 6. Working Conditions, and 7. Fashion Shows.

Along with this, applicants are required to have 3 or more years of experience trading to be eligible for the position. Brands that do not meet these requirements will not be considered. Furthermore, all successful applicants will receive coaching and advice on how best to achieve their desired goals while still striving to adhere to the tenets of sustainability. Volunteering can involve things like doing social activities in their community or volunteer work with charitable organizations, thereby fostering understanding of sustainability as well as giving back to the community.

Applicants get access to an extensive mentor programme and international business advice from leading fashion business leaders on top of the grant. As a result of this extensive support network, applicants have a greater understanding of how businesses operate and succeed in a globalised environment, and tend to be more confident in making strategic decisions.
