PREMIERE: Jack Howard ‘Sunlight’

Meet Jack Howard, the 19-year-old Brighton new comer who is quickly proving his talent. Having moved to Brighton 2 years ago, rekindling his love for funk and soul in his first year of Uni, ‘Jack Howard’ was born. Joined by his twin brother on stage, the unique dynamic that they have created is truly something.

Having released his debut single, ‘Yesterday’ in October 2018, he showed the world just how talented he is in his rhythmic hooks and dreamy yet raspy vocals that are the echo of summer vibes. With that in mind, his latest single, out Friday 17th May, is aptly named ‘Sunlight’.  It boasts a level of production and quality that is not often heard from newcomers, alongside the impossibly catchy vocals that are nothing short of brilliance in their ability to consume and captivate your attention. Between the ethereal symbols, jazz saxophone solo and the varying percussion used, Jack perfectly brings elements of funk, soul, and jazz into a contemporary and refreshing sound. Speaking on the track, Jack says ‘this song is a place of happiness when I wasn’t feeling too great. It’s about waking up and feeling like everything is just a little bit better and not waiting for life to bring you back and doing it yourself’.

We were lucky enough to catch him playing ‘Sunlight’ at one of the hot spot stages last weekend at The Great Escape Festival in his hometown of Brighton, and he was everything we expected and more. With only Jack and his saxophone player Holly playing this acoustic set, the passion and sheer talent they exuded was phenomenal. Without his full band to support him, you could assume that the quality and sound may be hindered, but not with this young musician.  Seemingly un-phased by the changed set up, He played a Spellbinding set that left us desperately wanting more.
