Demur Decks 19.08.2019 by Blush’ko

Since releasing his mixtape ‘Blush’ko In Love Pt. 2’ under his new name Blush’ko, the Melbourne singer/songwriter has been on our radar ever since. After Blush’ko got us all in our feels with his single from the EP ‘Like A Heartbeat’, he trotted off around the world sharing stages with the likes of Jhene Aiko and SG Lewis and now he is here taking over our Demur Decks this week with a selection of some of the songs he is listening to from his playlist.

H.E.R – Feel A Way

Firstly, H.E.R’s voice is butter, she could sing the alphabet and it would sound sexy! This song is my favourite of hers because the story is so passionate and sad, but the beat and groove is so ghetto. The melody and harmony blends oh so perfectly.

El Train – Tell Me Where

This grooovvvesss so hard, it automatically takes you to a better place…and afloat a beautiful vocal over the top and it just bounces you all the way to heaven. The synths and bassline just compliment the vocals so well and the storytelling is just gorgeous and delicate.

Radiant Children – Poke Bowl

Probably the most unique sounding female vocal I’ve heard and most effortless. This song just sits so perfectly in every aspect. The journey it takes you on is immaculate, you wanna cry and laugh at the same time.. all her note placements and the groove.. uhhhh.. perfection.

Gigi Lo – Let You In

I accidentally came across Georgia Lo on Instagram and it was the happiest accident of my life… “I was here before she blew up” she is going to be the biggest thing out of the UK.. her voice is Liquid Gold, her melodies are so special and in particular this song. The verses are so full, yet breathe so well and the chorus just ties in the story in perfectly. Get on it before you become a band waggoner.

Mac Miller – Ladders

Firstly, R.I.P such a shame for this loss, but this song is so hauntingly beautiful, the start synths met with the vocal layers already indicate that this song is going to be special. The bass slap pretty much sums up Mac’s music and everything is just delivered in the perfect way.

Khalid ft. H.E.R – This Way

Khalid’s voice is flawless, the 6/8 vibe captures his attitude so well and then blended with H.E.R’s voice and you have a masterpiece. Thank God this song exists, its definitely a grower and not a show-er haha..

Leon Bridges – Shy

Okay, imagine being in Netherlands for a whole week, kicking it with your family, then catching a train ride for 7 hours to Berlin, crossing the countrysides of Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany with your headphones on listening to this song. That is exactly what I did for 7 hours and this song will always take me back to that most precious moment.

Mac Ayres – Under

No man’s voice has ever been made more perfect for a smooth electric guitar sound. This song is like a breeze that creeps upon you, but you certainly needed that cool quench haha. So well done, production and vocals are so lush, makes you wanna just lay down on a hill somewhere and look up at a perfectly blue sky (a female companion would also be welcomed haha)

Sam Wills – Kool-Aid

Another golden boy from the UK, been a fan of this guy since I first heard him a few years back. He is silk wrapped up in more silk and dispersed with another layer of silk. This song screams Michael Jackson “Off The Wall”.. that chorus is hugggeeee.. All I can say is thank you for making this song exist.

ZHU – Love That Hurts

Okay, this is the dirtiest most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. I so badly want there to be an acoustic version of this but then cry at the thought of no bass and kicks. The story is so fragile, we have all been here. So just take it all in and don’t forget to mop up the floor after you leave.
