Demur Decks by Chlöe Howl 13.05.2019

We are big fans of Chlöe Howl over here at Demur, especially with her latest release ‘Millionaire’ which is all about female solidarity and explores the concept of dating someone materialistic and vain, who should instead be valuing the relationship. Chlöe was raised on an eclectic playlist featuring hip hop from her sister’s music selection and the New Order and The Smiths records her dad used to play in the car. We thought who better to get on our decks than someone with such a varied music influence.

I Like The Way – Etta Bond, Moon Willis

Etta Bond = badass queen. I LOVE HER!. The verses on this track are giving me subtle Laura Mvula – Green garden vibes but then they go somewhere super playful and summery which gets the song stuck in my head.

Mango – Rosie Lowe

I’m not always a fan of slow, beachy, r&b burners but this has grit to the chorus that stops it from feeling sleepy and injects it with soulful sass. Also, mangoes are the superior fruit so..

Missing You – Ingrid Michaelson

Robyn VS M83?!?! I am IN! I love the sprawling atmospheric production and the anthemic melodies have me DEEEEEEP IN MY FEELINGS. Also “when he’s kissing me I’m missing you” is such a simple but concisely sad line. All the stars out of ten.

Words – Franky Wah

So into house tracks with heart. I’m all about a sad banger – especially in genres you’d least expect it.

More – Flying Lotus, Anderson Paak

I’m a big fan of Anderson Paak and Flying Lotus, so this was one of the first tracks I was drawn to on NMF. I love the chatty whispery melodies and lack of structure that keeps you guessing.

After Hours – Teamwork, Nina Nesbitt, AJ Mitchell

I love Nina! Her journey to becoming an independent artist, forging her own path and set of rules is magical to watch – always here to support the independent ladies. This new track with AJ Mitchell is full of her sweet pop melodies.

Chlöe Howl – Millionaire

At the time of writing Millionaire, I was listening to US-based trap and hip hop and wanted to pull in sonic influences from those places. It’s about making someone realise that they already have everything they ever wanted.
