UMG promote Sipho Dlamini as CEO as part of the label’s expansion in Africa

Sipho Dlamini has been promoted to CEO of Universal Music Group’s South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa sector as the major record label seeks to expand in Africa. UMG are not the only major label expanding in Africa. Warner Music Group and many other labels have followed suit with Apple Music announcing an expansion into 25 new markets in Africa.

This expansion for UMG in Africa will focus on A&R and talent development with local artists and local talent will benefit from the label’s marketing, promotion, bespoke brand partnerships, recording facilities and live music promotion and booking through UMG’s ULive Africa division.

No doubt African culture has been on the rise for a while and it seems it still is if all the Instagram posts from the culture influencers living it up in Ghana are anything to go by. Afrobeats music has also been dominating the charts and playlists and has seen many artists adapt their styles to suit the genre. Sipho’s promotion comes as no surprise as the major label plans to tap into that growth this year.
