DAYLA Demur Decks Takeover

As we await DAYLA’s debut EP due out this summer, the London based Parisian artist has released her latest track ‘Lighthouse’ a song filled with hope to help anyone going through a tough time, overcome the darkness. DAYLA is an artist who uses her creative artistic talents to speak hope into people through her music. We are all for positivity here at Demur all the more reason to have DAYLA takeover our ‘Demur Decks’ during this ongoing pandemic.

Christine and The Queens – People I’ve Been Sad

This song came out just before we went into lockdown. I fell in love with it straight away and have been listening to it non-stop over the past two months. Probably my lockdown song :).

Yehan Jehan – Invisible Friends

A very talented friend of mine who makes exceptional music, with killer ad-libs by his sister Zadi at the end. This song makes me feel good. I’ve been listening to Yehan’s ‘Earth Arrangements Vol. 2’ EP a lot lately. With this weather, the hypnotizing sax melody just makes you wanna dance and forget about everything that is happening right now!

Faux Real – Come Thru

This brilliant brother duo, who also happen to be my friends, just put out their debut EP. Their music is very energetic and trippy at the same time. It’s a bit of a hidden gem on their EP and definitely deserves more attention! Such a tune.

elevator girl ft. Ivy Sole – Space Tape Edit

This track just dropped on Friday like ‘Lighthouse’. I love it, my friend Marta Salogni made this Space Tape Edit of it. I love what Shura does but this new version of elevator girl takes you somewhere else entirely!

Drake – Toosie Slide

This song is so good. I started working out again during the lockdown and I would dance to this song to warm up and it just gets you again and again. I’m not getting tired of it.

Lolo Zouaï – Alone with You

‘Alone With You’ is a brand new track by Lolo Zouaï, I discovered her music not so long ago and I just love her universe. Her melodies are always so on point and catchy, the production of her tracks are dreamy and super neat. Her voice is silky and I love her nonchalant vibe: how can you not like her? Definitely my girl crush of 2020.

Mustafa – Stay Alive

This song is so beautiful, it shows how great songs can be universal. He’s telling his own story that is very different from my own experiences but I can still fully relate and feel his soul when he sings. I can’t explain how it gets me when he sings “Stay Alive.”

James Blake – You’re Too Precious

His most recent work – a bowl of softness. So weird how artists can feel like family sometimes when you’ve been listening to them for such a long time, following the evolution through their own vulnerability.

Bad Honey – Pyjama Party EP

My friends Bad Honey just put out this isolation EP that they made over lockdown with other friends. I love the energy, the production, and the fact it’s a collective project. How to break the isolation effect successfully, ey? Plus each song has its own little animation, it’s just genius.

NYX – Somme

Here is 15 mins of pure vocal ambient sounds to relax and maybe meditate. Bring a sound bath to your home! I’m extremely proud to be part of this project, I love my NYX sisters to bits. It’s a project that aims to support women in music. We put out a collective EP over the lockdown and half the profits go to The Trussell Trust who run food banks. You can find it on Bandcamp.

DAYLA – Lighthouse

Lighthouse is not a classic pop song: it tells a story. I wrote it when I was struggling to get along with a loved one. The idea was to bring love, ‘the light’ of the lighthouse, to people who aren’t ok, who might be negative and hard to deal with. Through time, it became the song that gave me hope when my mom was dying then helped me through the grieving process. I hope this song will help someone during this difficult time we’re all facing.
