Luna Li – Trying

Luna Li has released a brand new single/accompanying music video for her latest single ‘Trying’. ‘Trying’ is about anxiety and the feeling of desperation and sense of unreality that can happen when everything gets to be too overwhelming. The dynamics and dreamy feel of the music reflect the feeling of being dazed and restless. Writing this song was an exercise in vulnerability. I had been listening to the podcast Song Exploder and noticed that the episodes I connected with most were the ones where the artists really opened up. I made a conscious decision to write something vulnerable as a way to combat my shyness and to better connect with others.

Glass Forest – I Remember

Sometimes our minds fill in the blanks and jealousy can get out of hand, ultimately causing our relationships to implode. Sometimes you look back on past relationships in a different light and while you still have an appreciation for the love you shared, you also realize that your feelings have changed and it can never be the same. ‘I Remember’ was written and performed by two people actually going through this kind of situation.

Migos Feat. Young Thug & Travis Scott – Give No Fxk

Migos have shared their new song and video ‘Give No Fxk’ feat. Young Thug & Travis Scott. The video premiered on BET Jams, BET Hip Hop and in Times Square on the Viacom billboard. This marks Migos’ first new single since Quality Control: Control The Streets Volume 2. Making a cameo in the ‘Give No Fxk’ video is the Can-Am Ryker, the three-wheel vehicle that the trio brought into the mainstream in 2019.

Sam Tompkins – You’re The Love of My Life

Kicking off the new decade, Sam Tompkins has unveiled his Valentine’s Day-inspired new single ‘You’re The Love Of My Life’. A heart-on-sleeve love song with a modern swing feel, ‘You’re The Love Of My Life’ sees Tompkins deliver his trademark combination of honest lyricism and restrained production.  It marks his first release since moving December single ‘Not So Grey’, which followed on from ‘From My Sleeve To The World’, Tompkins’ five-track debut EP that dropped back in October. Four of the tracks, ‘Follow Suit’, ‘You Broke My Heart So Gently’, ‘Critical’ and ‘Faded’ featuring Birmingham rapper Jaykae, were released as singles throughout 2019. ‘You’re The Love Of My Life’ sees Sam Tompkins kick off the new decade just as strongly as he finished the last.

Adam Rom – Hostage

Emerging singer-songwriter and producer Adam Rom has unveiled the lyric video for his latest single ‘Hostage’. The lyric video for ‘Hostage’ is a deeply personal affair that sees Adam skateboarding his way through London and ultimately trying to make sense of life in the big city – a perfect visual accompaniment for the track’s themes of love and loss. Adam previously explained: ‘I wrote this song with the sick Futurecut and Ruxley. It was the second song we wrote of the day, the first one didn’t feel right but then I pulled up the beat for hostage and we all knew we had to write something to it. It sort of all fell into place within a few hours and I walked away from the session knowing I had something really special.’ The intriguing lyric video for ‘Hostage’ is just the latest development in the rise of this exciting British talent.

Etta Bond & Raf Riley (ExR) – ‘Not Ur GF’

Etta Bond and Raf Riley have reformed their popular ExR collaborative project to deliver new single ‘Not Ur GF’, the maiden release on Raf’s newly-formed Loup Ent imprint. A sunkissed, carefree slice of R&B, ‘Not Ur GF’ pairs Etta’s effortless vocal prowess with breezy flutes and a deep, danceable bassline. The track is their first release together since dropping 2 EPs in the past, Emergency Room and Meds. ‘Not Ur GF’ comes with an engrossing animated video depicting a girl being haplessly pursued by a former partner. There was a launch party on 12th February this week to mark both the release of ‘Not Ur GF’ and the launch of the label. Marking the start of a new chapter for Etta Bond and Raf Riley, ‘Not Ur GF’ is an infectious track that brings out the best in both artists.

Ennie Loud -The Best I Can

Sweet without being saccharine, sentimental without being mawkish, ‘The Best I Can’ is a poignant reflection on the twin poles of femininity, and the quiddities of being human and vulnerable. Framed as a series of statements to one’s weaker self, ‘The Best I Can’ is a slow bounce hinged around a minimal and addicting bassline. Written by Cassandra, whose R&B tinged vocal recalls the halcyon days of Lauryn Hill, the song was produced by band member Fabio Rizzoli, aka BeeOff, and recorded and performed by the band at the SAE Institute of London. Beau Vallis (Kelly Rowland, Pharrell, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg) assists Fabio with the mixing and masters it himself. On ‘The Best I Can’ EnnieLoud have found a style that mixes neo-soul melodics with the ambient soundscaping of artists like Portishead and Goldfrapp, adding technical flourishes used by live DJs – drum and bass filters, synth arpeggiators and samples. The video was directed by Juanmi Cuesta and choreographed and performed by Italian danseuse Colette Gasparini. It follows a young girl as she dances with tireless passion in the immensity of a disused warehouse. ‘The Best I Can’ is a sincere expression of inner-strength, a genre-defying testament to self-definition in the face of very human doubts.
